Audio description with audio introduction - the study of reception of audio description with audio introduction for the movie "Man on Wire"

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest teoretyczna refleksja w zakresie wprowadzenia audiowstępu do filmów dla osób z dysfunkcją wzroku. Audiowstęp to kilkuminutowe nagranie przed filmem, zawierające informacje na temat warstwy wizualnej filmu, pełniejsze (niż w AD) opisy bohaterów i miejsca, zarys treści, a także dodatkowe informacje dotyczące obsady i produkcji filmu.Głównym celem pracy jest sprawdzenie odbioru audiodeskrypcji z audiowstępem do filmu Człowiek na linie . Badanie zostało zainspirowane projektem, który prowadzą Louise Fryer i Pablo Fresco-Romero z Uniwersytetu Roehampton. Ważnym aspektem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie, czy istnieje potrzeba wprowadzenia audiowstępów do filmu i czy są one pomocne w pełniejszym oglądaniu filmów obcojęzycznych z wersją lektorską. Audiowstęp wraz z audiodeskrybowanym filmem został pokazany osobom z dysfunkcją wzroku w Polskim Związku Niewidomych w listopadzie 2011 roku. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badania oraz opinie ankietowanych na temat wykorzystania audiowstępu w filmie.The subject of this thesis is research concerning implementation of audio introduction into films for blind and partially sighted people. Audio introduction is a few minutes’ recording of continuous description presented prior to the movie, which incorporates information about the visual style of the film, fuller (than in AD) descriptions of characters and settings, a synopsis of the plot and cast and production details.The main purpose of this dissertation is to test the reception of audio description with audio introduction for the movie Man on Wire. The research was inspired by a project of Louise Fryer and Pablo Romero-Fresco from the Roehampton University. The principal aspect of this study is to investigate if there is a need for audio introduction for films and whether it helps to watch movies, including foreign voiced-overones. The audio described film with AI was shown to blind and partially sighted audience s in November 2011 at the Polish Association of the Blind. The paper presents the results of the study and the respondents’ views on the subject
